Cochrane Collaboration Consumer Network . The Cochrane Collaboration Consumer Network summarises the findings of Cochrane systematic reviews of health research, helps people to understand research, and explains how people can participate in and contribute to it. Consultants for Health & Development is an international consulting group, specialising in public health and development. CHD offers its services to governments, non-governmental organisations, bilateral and international organisations, and financing agencies such as the Development Banks and the European Union. The Déclaration de Berne (DB) is a Swiss non-governmental organisation, working to promote more equitable North-South relations through activities of public awareness and lobbying aimed at Swiss political and corporate decision-makers. The DB works on different issues such as health, agriculture, large dams, and financial relations. The DB is financially and politically independent. DES Centrum, The Netherlands is a national, non-profit consumer organisation dedicated to informing the public about DES (diethylstilbestrol) and helping DES-exposed individuals. DES Centrum publishes a quarterly newsletter and several other publications on various aspects of DES exposure. DES Centrum also provides a link between DES-exposed people and researchers and the medical community. DIPEx, Database of Individual Patients' Experiences uses narrative video/audio interviews of people in the UK with high blood pressure, prostate cancer, breast cancer and colorectal cancer. In addition it provides reliable information about these conditions, and links to other sources; other topics are in preparation. DIPEx is intended for patients, health professionals, researchers and policy makers and access is free. It is a charity funded by the National Health Service, Macmillan Cancercare and other donors. IBFAN the International Baby-Food Action Network - consists of public interest groups working around the world to reduce infant and young child morbidity and mortality. IBFAN aims to improve the health and well being of babies and young children, their mothers and their families through the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding and optimal infant feeding practices. International Society of Drug Bulletins (ISDB) is an organisation of therapeutic journals that are morally and financially independent of industry funding. ISDB members publish journals at least four times a year, aimed at health professionals and the public. Comparative information on drugs and treatments is a prominent topic of these journals. Medact
is an organisation of health professionals undertaking education, research
and advocacy on the health impacts of conflict, environmental degradation
and poverty. It currently has programmes on economic and health sector
reforms in developing countries, environment and health, nuclear issues
and health, refugee health in the UK and putting global health issues
into medical and nursing curricula. Medicus Mundi, Switzerland (MMS) is the network of Swiss organisations working in the field of international health. Medicus Mundi Switzerland encourages the exchange of ideas among its member organisations and acts as a platform for all questions on health in connection with international cooperation between Switzerland and the countries of the South and the East. Medicus Mundi Switzerland plays an active role in the international networks of Medicus Mundi International, an umbrella organisation in official relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO), as well as in Health Action International. OXFAM International is
a confederation of 12 organizations working together in more than 100
countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice. Physicians for Social Responsibility-Finland (PSRF) works in the fields of development co-operation, peace, environment and pharmaceutical policy. PSRF has about 900 members (doctors, dentists and medical students). ReMeD
(Network for Medicines and Development) is a French association focusing
its thinking and action on problems relating to the field of medicines
in developing countries. ReMeD is an interactive
tool of information, education and evaluation, that gathers the skills
and experience of its members, operating in different professional fields
in France and developing countries. Save
the Children UK undertakes a range of health policy work, focusing
on liberalisation and trade in health services, the financing of health
services, regulation, access to medicines and the role and responsibilities
of the pharmaceutical industry in ensuring children's right to health. Social
Audit, UK 's website receives more than 250,000 visitors a year
and is mainly a chronicle of the (often pitiful) response of the authorities
to dependence and other problems arising from the use of antidepressant
drugs. It includes extensive correspondence with regulatory agencies,
professional bodies and commercial organizations. Operated by Charles
Medawar, the website is a mine of information, touching on a wide range
of international drug policy issues, including DTCA, advertising control,
marketing and promotional activity; conduct of clinical trials, secrecy
in drug regulation and more. Wemos, The Netherlands aims to improve people’s health in developing countries by influencing international policy. This differentiates Wemos from other Dutch relief and aid organisations. Wemos believes that international standards, regulations and agreements are necessary to protect and promote people’s health in developing countries.
